It’s that time of year again. The air is chillier, parts of the country are already buried under 6 feet of snow, and commercials are reminding you to get a head start on your holiday shopping. Thanksgiving, and more importantly for retail marketers, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, are just days away.

A new report from Jumio reveals that merchants and brands could lose out on up to $8.6 billion in mobile sales this holiday season due to checkout cart abandonment.

The study found that consumers abandon the mobile checkout process for many reasons, including slow network speeds and high shipping fees.

If you're a retailer, how can you prevent this from happening in your mobile site or app?

  • Even though Thanksgiving and Black Friday are next week, the holiday shopping frenzy is already in full force – and there’s no doubt consumers will turn to their tablets and mobile phones to shop.
  • Speaking of tablets, one analyst believes the iPad Mini will generate “more demand than it cannibalizes.”
  • While the iPhone 5 has been on the shelves for just two short months, Apple is reportedly already starting production for its next generation of the smartphone – the iPhone 5S.
